Inked Out

WEARING

I’ve tattooed quite a few of my pieces on myself.

Actually, some of my first ever pieces were tattooed on my partner.

What prompted you to make the career switch?

I used to be a graphic designer, but I’ve been collecting pieces for a while before I decided to make the switch. It’s been a natural shift, since I’ve always been keen to explore illustration work.

How do you usually find your inspiration for your pieces?

My tattoos reflect my personal preference and taste—I have a cheese and wine tattoo, just because they’re some of my favourite foods.

What’s a dish that brings you instant comfort?

I love bak chor mee (minced pork noodles)—the flavours are very layered and reminds me of home. I love the restaurant Violet Oon, and I found out recently that they make snacks now, so that’s on my list too.

Have you thought about any new year resolutions for next year?

Make more tattoos, I guess (laughs).

You’re living in New York now—what’s one thing about the city that you wish would change?

It’s great most of the time, but I really wish that the streets were a little cleaner (laughs).
