Can you tell us more about what you do?
I’m an interior designer in a Japanese company that manufactures office furniture. The part about my work that I enjoy the most is putting colours together for a project.
Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?
I guess, everywhere! As a designer, I think about the reason behind the things that I see—for example, the rationale behind pairing certain colours together in a colour scheme.
You mentioned that you’re from Indonesia. Is your family there?
My family is in Indonesia. I was Indonesian but I’m Singaporean now. I’m wearing batik today because in Indonesia, every Friday is Batik Friday!
What do you miss most about Indonesian culture?
I think I miss the food most because even though some Indonesian dishes are available here, they don’t really taste the same.
What’s an Indonesian dish that you miss the most?
I would say it’s satay padang from my hometown. I can’t find it anywhere in Singapore.
Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
I used to like to sketch and I sometimes swim. But now, since I have a son, I spend more time with him.
Is there something that surprised you about being a parent?
Yes. When you have a child, it’s a different experience from just being with your partner because your child depends fully on you. You not only have to take care of him, you also have to teach him.
