A New Chapter

WEARING

We last met you at the start of this year—what has been the biggest change in this turbulent year?

Covid-19 (laughs). I graduated in July this year, so I’ve also moved into a new phase of adulthood.

How has it been like to graduate in the midst of a pandemic?

It’s been a blur, because it still doesn’t feel real yet. Graduating in the middle of a pandemic doesn’t feel as tangible because of the absence of major exams, events, and milestones, like convocation. When it comes to working, I now think more about what is essential and what is not—this has given me a new perspective on certain jobs and industries that, to me, hold greater meaning or value.

With this new perspective, what’s a job you’re hoping to work in?

I applied to various ministries but the one track that I am pursuing right now is education. I feel that the job of a teacher is so essential.

What’s something about yourself that not many people might know about?

I personally feel that I look better in glasses than without.

Share with us something on your bucket list that you’re hoping to tick off soon.

Travel. It’s been a dream of mine to visit Canada and I had initially been planning to go there for my graduation trip. I miss being in awe of big mountains and huge, dense forests.

If you could change something about the society that you live in, what would it be?

I think we can all afford to become a more empathetic society, especially in Singapore where empathy can be very lacking because we’re such a thriving and competitive society.

If time and money weren’t an issue, what’s an adventure you’d love to embark on?

I would like to visit all seven continents in the world, including Antarctica.

Describe your perfect day off:

Waking up full of energy and determination to start my day with a good workout. Having a good meal with friends, catching up over coffee, and then playing some sports with them. Having dinner at a nice place with my girlfriend and family. Ending the night with a couple of games of Dota, and having a good night’s rest.
