Tell us more about where you’re from and what brings you to Singapore.

I’m from Myanmar, and I’ve been working in Singapore as a domestic helper for five plus years. I came to Singapore to work because I want to support my family back in Myanmar—I am the youngest in my family, and I have five brothers and sisters.

At night, after I finish my work, I will call my family. I cannot go back to Myanmar because of the war, so this is the only way I can communicate with them for now.

Where do you go when you’re craving Burmese food?

I always go to Peninsula Plaza to eat Burmese food, especially with rice (laughs). It’s my favourite place in Singapore because there are always a lot of Burmese people there.

I also like to cook—I cook three times a day, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I can cook all kinds of food—Singaporean, Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Thai.

How do you like to spend your free time or days off?

Every month I have two days off, once every two weeks. I usually like to just go out and walk by myself, maybe go to the museum or to Peninsula Plaza to shop. That’s where I bought my whole outfit from!

That’s a nice pendant you’re wearing—are you religious?

I have no religious preference—I believe in everything. I used to go to church, and sometimes I go to the Buddhist temple too. All of them are good, so I don’t have a preference.
