Go Getting

WEARING

Tell us more about yourself, and what brings you to Singapore!

I’m Rachel from California, and why am I in Singapore, you ask? I have no idea (laughs). I just heard that everything is safe and clean, and so I wanted to experience that for myself. It’s my first time travelling solo, so I wanted to go somewhere safe.

Well, welcome to Singapore! Where else have you been on this solo trip of yours?

I was just in Seoul and Busan. Singapore is my last step before I head back home.

What are your thoughts on Asia in general?

I love it! It’s super clean and super advanced—very different from the States. I visited Japan for the first time last year and loved it too.

Would you say you’re a spontaneous traveller or a one who plans intensely in advance?

Well, I booked this trip two weeks before flying off, so that should tell you everything you need to know about me (laughs).

Hmm, definitely a planner then! Jokes aside, what sparked this desire to embark on a solo trip?

I recently finished my contracted job, so I wanted to celebrate my hard work by travelling somewhere. I was working for an advertising agency as an influencer campaign coordinator, but I also manage a music festival, and DJ!

We never would’ve guessed that you were a DJ! But hey, never judge a book by its cover, huh?

Definitely! I grew up playing a bunch of musical instruments, and then grew to love hardgroove and techno. But it was only a couple of years back, when I started raving, that I really fell into the scene and started DJing—it’s only been a little over a year since I started!

But I must say, I usually dress in a more masculine style, but it’s really hot in Singapore, so I’m more femme right now.

Well, you’d love the rave scene in Singapore—there’s a techno party that goes on almost every weekend here! But on that note, who are some of your favourite DJs?

I have to come back someday then! As for my favourite DJs… that’s hard! I like Excision, Sara Landry, GRiZ, Trim, KETTAMA, and Partiboi69.

Is DJing something you hope to continue doing back home?

Yeah, I definitely want to continue DJing. But I have to start learning how to produce so that I can make it as a DJ.
